Hello! i forgot i was part of this community ever since i got my White 01 Lx Monty. Now i have a 03 Limited Silver Monty for about 4-5 years now. I'm the second owner wish i was first but they stopped bringing these in since 04 to the U.S as you guys may know. That was just part of the history of the vehicle so we can be on the same page. Now to business. Ever since i got my 03 Monty, i've noticed that the supension is not much better than the Lx 01 monty. i thought that was a Lx thing and the Limited wouldnt have that problem. I've learned to deal with its soft suspension (which i hate tbh) but lately its beginning to slouch on the rear (ill try to add a picture). i cant even sit my wife and 1 year old without it bottoming out on medium holes and rough terrain of NYC. When im alone its PERFECT ofcourse. I've decided i want to keep my Monty for really long time and want to invest on her to keep her on the road. I live in NYC so having her for offroad is out of the picture. Now to business, i need help on what kind of brand of shocks, springs and other suspension parts to go for. Yes i want to do the ENTIRE suspension front and back. Basically i want her like new under the body. Why? im starting to hear noise from front suspension when i go over bumps and she lands and extracts. front shocks keep her level so its not that. i was going to order OEM parts but im guessing (from reading other suspension problems) the OEM suspension are soft by default. P.s- ive heard of the OME suspension but i dont want to raise her. i actually want to lower her a bit to close the gap of the tire and fenders, since ill be adding aftermarket rims (maybe 20"-22"). Make her look like a sporty vehicle show vehicle. if i cant really lower her, just keeping her normal height with stiffer suspension that can carry luggage and 4 people would be Great! Any help will be helpful so please dont be shy! i found some bundles on ebay but i dont know if its high quality or not. check it out. www.ebay.com/itm/291766485836?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITwww.ebay.com/itm/03-04-Mitsubishi-Montero-Sport-Bilstein-4600-Shocks-24-017947-24-064255-/262449722534?hash=item3d1b38f4a6:g:jkAAAOSw4shX7Fjf&vxp=mtr-Luis

You'll have to wait for Edward or bdmontero to reply to get a better answer but from what I've read KYB's Gas adjust shocks will provide a rougher ride akin to the Gen1 but maybe a tad bit more so but Old Man Emus shocks are like the Gen1 but a tad softer. (Personal opinion is that the OME shocks would be perfect)

Get an OME kit from Rocky Road. It will not really lift it much but firm it up well. And their shocks are fine. If you go up in whl/tire size it will eat up any gap as it were in the wheelwell. I am doing just that tomorrow on my 01, same spring/torsion bar rates as OME just OE sourced. Shocks will come later but hear Bilstiens are a viable and less expensive option. KYB are stiff as hell, I will not use them again...

I will do the rear coil springs 1st cause there easier. Maybe T bars if things go smoothly. Also have to adjust my shift linkage.

One thought. Your factory springs just might be dead. My sport had over 500lb plus my grandson and wife... it never bottomed out with 225,000 miles... it sagged horribly... lol...
Sooooo... you might just go back to new factory coils.
Now here is a possible suggestion, but it will all depend on the type of coils the ome are... i have no clue...
story time. I bought eibachs lowering springs for my firebird v6. There was no kit for a v6. So i got the v8. Well a v8 engine weighs more that the v6, so the nose jacked way way up. Called eibach. They suggested cutting the springs. But these springs are progressive and as such, you can get away with a small trim without altering the ride. We took a half coil and the car leveled out. Suspension got a touch stiffer up front. Fine for sports car handling. All was well. Keys here... progressive springs... and we cut them with a ziz wheel a bit at a time, being extremely careful not to heat up the spring, as this changes the rating. Doing it wrong with give you the dreaded import bounce. Typically cutting of factory springs. They cut too much and over heat springs. Result... car bounces like a trampoline.
So the question becomes... if you get the ome it will raise the truck. Can you cut them properly to make it back factory height & give a firm ride? Not sure!
If it was me.... i would go with a factory new spring. You are talking alot of years on the ones on there.

But since i had my 01 monty and did the same thing, and others ive read said the same thing aswell (not everyone which is confusing), it made me doubt its integrity. i wish i could ride with other people monty's and compare lol. sadly dont know anyone that has one near me that i know personally. The OME are quite expensive but they just might be the ones im looking for. im thinking of getting the medium duty since most say its enough to tow and be comfortable for daily driving. PS.- i had a thought to go to the junk yard and get used coils and slap them on and see if it makes a difference. good idea or not?
