Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I'm having some problems with my front driveshaft on 2002 Montero Sport 3.5L XLS A4WD. The boot of rzeppa joint was torn letting dust and dirt come into the joint and soon it will fail. As you know you can't order separate rzeppa joint and have to replace whole front driveshaft assembly which is a bit pricey. I'm thinking of taking U-joint driveshaft from Pajero II or maybe L200 (Triton) cutting it to fit Montero Sport and have a serviceable driveshaft. So guys what do you think about this idea? Maybe someone did it already and have advice? What pros and cons I will get with this conversion?

Try posting in the general section and maybe you'll get some help. Most people on here however are in the U.S. so experience with the Pajero and L200 will be few and far between.

Yes, I think I know someone that replaced the CV with a u-joint and I've replaced one with a different (Toyota) CV. It is possible. You'll need to build or find a yoke for the transfer case, build the new drive shaft and have it balanced. KIM that the CV joint will have less vibration and be quieter and it would probably last longer as well - even if professionally done. I doubt - unless you're going to hack something together in your back yard - you will save any $$$ in the long run. Edward

Today I was in the driveshaft shop and they said the same thing you said. It all can be done but it's easier to find a cheap used propellershaft from the scrapyard. And I have found it for cheap. However if it will fail soon I think I'll have to go that way making a serviceable front driveshaft. BTW can you share the P/N for a Toyota CV you used?

I don't have a P/N for that anymore. I had that built in 15 years ago. There are better joints for what you're talking about now anyway. Edward
