Montero Sport 03 3.5 AWD. Wondering if this part carries a rubber boot in either end. Sorry I cannot upload a picture. But is the shaft from the front axle to the transfer case. Thanks!

That is what I thought. Shop was telling me that they have to customized one after the rebuild. Thanks 2003Limited2003.

When I was going over 4WD components seems I saw mention of a rubber boot on the shaft side, in the split section pictured, then an oil seal on the t-case input. The split section appears to be a slip joint or a CV joint. Manual was talking about using a shop towel and pulling it straight out to avoid damaging it. If they're rebuilding it they should take note, if you're just swapping the shaft out it doesn't matter as that whole assembly comes out as one piece. As long as they don't damage it I don't see why they couldn't reuse it. For the exception of the vacuum lines the rubber components on these trucks are of high quality.

Well I tried to post a pic on a host site but couldn't get that to work either, but the boot is on the 2 piece part at the end of the shaft side above the bolt shown.

In fact there is a rubber boot that goes on the end against the transfer case. They don’t sell that boot by itself that is why why the shop will need to customize one. Now my question is if it is worth it rebuilding it or buying a new propeller? Anybody has replace this part and what brand from where? Thanks!

There's a company on eBay that has a rebuild kit for the part time 4WD 3.0 models, maybe they could point you in the right direction.

Here's a pic of each end of the front driveshaft on my '03 (the '00 is the same): Where is this boot supposed to be? Neither of mine have a rubber boot. I suppose they both could be missing, but where is it supposed to be mounted? The only rubber component that I could see is here (red arrow):

Yea that looks like it. Is that a split or just the lighting. Appears to be a boot on the other half as well. I'm wondering if there is mention of this in the front axle section where it talks about rebuilding the cvd's. Wishful thinking I suppose.

That is a split in the rubber, though it's actually pretty minor (looks worse in the pic). The 'boot' at the other end is actually a metal shield of some sort. What's confusing is that there's no mention of a boot in the parts diagram.

Yea there is a lack of detail for the exploded parts view. It's the same thing with the shifter fulcrum where it's not shown in the diagrams but it has a part number.
