I had a 97 3.0L Montero LS that had 160k on it by the time I sold it...by the way, I never had any problems with the engine, it didn't smoke and still ran great....now I own a 2004 3.5L XLS AWD and I'm up to 56K.

178K on my 97 LS. No engine, sensor, electrical problems. As matter affect, I took it to the dealer for a couple minor recalls in 98, one time to fix a rattling noise from the sunroof and one time for the anti lock brake light stays on. Other times for routine maintenance such as timing belt and spark plugs changes. BTW, the original water pump is still in going strong. Yea, I know it time have it change out on my next timing belt change out. Since 97 is the first model year, I was surprise by how solid and reliable the vehicle was. I just ordered the HKS custom exhaust from Cardomain simply can't resist the special low low pricing going on now. My original exhaust still very solid. Well done Mitsu.

'98 LS 4wd. 191,000. I've owned it for the past 90k with no mechanical issues whatsoever. Just kept up on maintainance. Took it in this week for a brake inspection. Need new rotors and pads all around and front callipers. Luckily I have a good honest mechanic that is going to do it at cost and not charge me an arm and a leg. I drive over 100 miles to this guy in Manhattan, KS at Supreme Automotive. This truck has never let me down and never will. I used live overseas and drove the "father" of the Montero Sport- the Mits L200. It was a double cab diesel 4wd. Ran it into the ground with nearly 400k on one engine and transmission.

I have a 01 LS with 263,136. Purchased it new in Dec. of 2000. at 160k I replaced the timing belt, water pump and plugs. My only real problem is that it burns about a quart of oil (Mobile 1 10w 30) ever 1000 miles or so. I have been really good about changing the oil ever 3-5k miles running with a Mobile 1 filter. My check engine light has been on for about a year due to the ERG valve? I need to get it fixed now though because it won't pass inspection. With all these miles I still love this truck.

99 4X4 Limited, 200,000 miles. No major failures although I've had 4 cracked exhaust manifolds, several O2 sensors replaced, one pre-cat replaced and one failed water pump. Transmission is about to go but with 200K I can't complain.

2000 bought in Nov of 2000. 248,000 plus and still running strong! Only 2 major issues in all that time: 1) I had a cracked exhaust manifold. 2) The front diff solenoid went bad. This is the highest one I saw, I think...it's cool to read all of the responses. I am about to be at 95K miles now (2002 LS), and haven't had much for problems...idiotic story on that... Thought I was leaking oil, but I dont have a good place to get under it and take the skip plate off. So I continued to drive for a week, waiting for a chance to take it in. First thing the service guy tells me is I probably left the filter loose when I changed the oil... yeah, right. Well the drain plug wasn't tight When I tried to change the oil for my first time after buying it I couldn't get the plug OUT and had to take it in...Guess I need to work on a happy medium! LOL!
