97 LS 4x4 auto 3.0L - 195+K bought it with 87K on the odometer, more then 100K with only (2) alternator, (1) battery, (1) waterpump, (1) sets of ac-ps-alt belts, (1) set of tokico shocks, (1) set of m/t tires and lots of o.e.m oil filters and Mobil 1 oils. The Monte has never ever left me stranded on the road to see a tow truck. Still running like a champ with new Firestone Destination M/T. Funny thing is timing belt, spark plug and wires were never touch since I got the truck and god knows for how long it has been on there before I got it but it ran fine. I still believe that " if it ain't broken - don't fix it " - however with going into the 200K miles range - just did the timing belt, plug & wires 2 weeks ago just to be on the safe side.

1997 XLS 119,000 miles
The really issue with it has been that it tends to stall when the seasons change, and it tends to do it in dangerous spots. Its had this issue since it was new. The mitsu rep had some work done to try and fix it, but it only mitigated the problem some. I make a point of cleaning the throttle body with every oil change and that seems to help, but it is NEVER very dirty.
Other than that, the only other unscheduled maintenance was---1 rear LSD "pumkin"(this later became a service bulleting), 2 alternators, 1 power door lock, 1 radio, 2 antennas, 1 lower fan blade housing, 1 brake light switch and 1 tiny heater hose.
I had 1 induced failure and that was at 60,000 miles when the perfectly good water pump was replaced with a new broken water pump (it leaked)

Yup, the issue apparently is that under certain circumstances the system can not respond fast enough to prevent stalling and still maintain pollution controls. (pollution control wins out under law supposedly). Most people only experience this during battery changes, but some of us have sports that are susceptible even without the battery change.

120,000 on my 2003 Montero Sport. My air just went out a week ago and my tires need to be replaced (60,000 on the same tires). No problems all these years.
