If this is the same as the 1999 Sport, you just have to remove the drain plug from the pan, just like changing your motor oil. Refill the oil by removing the transmission oil dipstick and fill with Mitsubishi trans fluid only. Use a funnel.

Does anyone know approx how much fluid will drain out of when you just remove the plug and let it drain, so I can purchase enough?
Thanks

About 3 quarts will come out if you drain it from the plug. If you take it and have a domplete flush it's Eleven quarts. Just had mine done a week and a half ago.

Thanks.
Do you drain and refill between the complete flush. A friend has a dodge truck and he drains his about every 5k miles and refills it?
I have had mine completely flushed probably 20k miles ago.

I paid $4.50 a quart for the Valvoline ATF +4, it had better last longer than 5K miles! I had it done at a shop, so they hooked it to the machine that flushes it all out.

Can the torque converter be drained at home for a complete refill of the tranny?
Has anyone used AMSOIL synthetic ATF, my buddy with a Pathfinder swears by it.

i would think u would have to drop the tranny to do that. could be wrong but i think that is why the dealerships go the flush and fill route vs. drain and fill. clay

So you mean to tell me that Mobil ATF 3309 is of less quality than diamond atf spIII (aka hyundai and kia atf)
right-o then
Personally I run Mobil full synthetic anywhere my car takes fluid. 75w90 in the differentials and transfer case, and run ATF 3309 in the transmission, and 5w30 SUV in the engine... yes it's well over $200 in fluids... but it's a lot cheaper than new parts.
I would recommend buying up 11 quarts of whatever ATF you decide on, and heading to aamco to get a power flush. That way they also tell you if you have filings or otherwise in the fluid. As far as diffs and transfer case, wait overnight and change the fluid first thing in the morning... simple as a drain plug, let it drain, cap it, fill it till it overflows, and seal it. 3 quarts i the rear, 3 in the transfer case, and 1 quart in the front.

Its nothing to do with quality its the way the Mitsubishi designed and built the transmission. puddy This fact not fiction i am not saying this for the fun of it. Please don't wreck your transmission by filling it with the wrong fluid

I have a mobil rep I'm in regular contact with. I even compared a bottle of diamond atf spIII and hyundai spIII and they are identical. Anything mobil is superior to standard fluids. You'll see that 3309 is designed for mitsubishi and AISIN transmissions if you do your homework, and ATF+4 is even superior to SPIII.The idea with mobil products is not to change the fluid when it breaks down, but have the fluid last until you decide to change it out. I'll continue to run my mobil fluids and let things progress as they will thanks
