I know this question has been posed... several times in fact. But I'm still concerned.
Concerned that there may not be enough factory support for our cars in the future. I know we've all been told that Mitsubishi is doing fine and that we have nothing at all to worry about. But from every indication I've gotten, that isn't the case. 2 out of the 3 dealers I used to go to (parts/service) are now closed. None of which looked to be going out of business. I'm worried that sooner or later the one 25 miles away is going to close and I'm going to have to drive 50 then... It's hard enough getting a service shuttle to take you 25 miles let alone 50.
I'm worried that at some point there won't be enough support to go around. Should I keep throwing good money at something that won't be around 5 years from now? Or should I do the sensible thing and buy a Toyota (we all know they're not going anywhere). My parents were going to buy another Mitsu (they currently own a Diamante and an Eclipse) but in lieu of the dealership (next to their house) closing I think they're going to buy a Subaru.
Despite the rumors of new vehicles (aka: 06 Raider and the 06 Eclipse (I think it's ugly)) I'm afraid they're not doing enough to reassure the public they'll be around for the duration of the "10 year/100,000 mile powertrain- best backed warranty" (gimick?). What are we all to think when all we see is closures. How many of us will be willing to drive 50 miles to have a warranty item fixed (keep in mind you might have to rent a car for some of these items because thay won't drive you 50 miles to get home and it may take more than a day to complete). Also, Who's willing to have they're car serviced only to have the dealership close 2 weeks later only to find they accidentally forgot something.... You get the picture.
No, I'm not jaded in my thoughts just concerned. I love my MS (possibly the best car I've ever owned - aside from my motorcycle). I just wish Mitsubishi was doing more to help us all feel at ease with their present situation. Does anyone else agree/disagree? Either way, it's a forum, right?
