I DON'T THINK YOU CAN FIT A 15" RIM ON 2000+ MODELS. THE CALIPER IS IN THE WAY, I THINK YOUR GONNA HAVE TO GO WITH A 16" RIMS. I AM IN THE SAME BOAT I WANTED 15" RIMS WITH 33" TIRES ALSO.

Honestly, there's not a lot of difference between a 15" and a 16" when off-roading. At least I've never noticed before. You can still air down to get the traction you want and still have enough tire to provide cushion and not bend up a wheel. Unless you're going for a certain look, or are set on getting a set of steelies, keep the 16's. Just my humble opinion.

THE THING WITH THE 33'S IS THE RIMS SIZE THEY FIT IS EITHER A 15" OR 16.5" I THINK THAT'S IT, IF I AM WRONG PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I AM GETTING 305/70R16 WITCH IS EQUIVALENT TO A 33". THIS WAY IT WILL FIT ON A 16" X 8" RIM. 33" ARE RECOMMENDED TO BE ON A 8.5" - 10.0" RIM.

ALSO I HEARD THE 33'S WILL FIT BUT MAY HAVE MINOR RUBBING. THE RIM WIDTH AND THE OFFSET WILL PLAY A ROLE IN THIS. MAYBE WITH THE RIGHT COMBINATION, THERE WON'T BE ANY RUBBING. I'LL HAVE TO DO SOME CALCULATIONS, WHEN I LIFT MINE.

I don't think there is any way around the rubbing. All the guys I know that have 33" tires on there Sports had to screw back or cut away a part of the section that is right above the mud flap. You will defiantly have to remove you mud flaps too. Skid ALSO I HEARD THE 33'S WILL FIT BUT MAY HAVE MINOR RUBBING. THE RIM WIDTH AND THE OFFSET WILL PLAY A ROLE IN THIS. MAYBE WITH THE RIGHT COMBINATION, THERE WON'T BE ANY RUBBING. I'LL HAVE TO DO SOME CALCULATIONS, WHEN I LIFT MINE.

DOES IT MATTER IF IT IS A 2000+ MS OR NOT? IS THERE MORE CLEARANCE ON 2000+ MODELS?

Your stock wheel is 16X7. So the best tire to put on that size rim that is a 33 inch tire is a 285/75/16 tire. It is equal to 33X11.50. That is what I am putting on my Sport as soon as I work out all the clearance issues. Yes there is supposedly a little more clearance with the 2000up Sports. So it will be a little easier for you.

I run a 265/75R16 tire on the stock rims on the wife's 2001 Montero Sport XLS 4WD. ZERO problems rubbing and a full size spare fits in the stock location.
The next set of tires will be Nitto Terra-Grappler A/Ts in the 295/75R16 flavor, which is about a 33.7" tire.
I do not expect to have any rubbing issues with it.
I think a 16" rim is actually better off-road than a 15" if you are running 33"+ tires, just my opinion though.
