There are not many options for 97-99 and even fewer for the 00-02. You have 5 different ways you can lift the 97-99 Montero Sport. The first way is the cheapest, that's with shackles and cranking you torsion bars. You can crank up your torsion bars to a max of 3" of lift, and put in shackles in the back to match the front. Shackles are twice the height of the lift you want. So if you want a 3" lift you will have to get 6" shackles. "Note that you might worsen your departure angle with longer shackles. You will also loose most if not all of your down travel in the front when you crank the torsion bars up to 3". You will have to buy new longer shocks for the rear too. The next way you can lift you Sport is adding more leafs to you leaf-spring. And once again cranking your torsion bars. Another way you can lift you Sport is getting new leaf springs all together, and once again cranking your torsion bars and getting new shocks. OME (Old Man Emu ) has a setup that comes with two rear leaf springs and 4 new shocks, for $700.00. But it is only a 1" lift. (this may have changed.) The next way you can lift you Sport is similar to the OME set-up. Ironman Suspension comes with two rear leaf springs, 4 new shocks and new torsion bars as well, all for $600.00 for a 2.5" lift. Once you get your lift you can go as big as 32" tires with no rubbing. You can go with 33" tires and do minimum amount of mods to stop the rubbing. No matter which way you lift your sport You will loose most if not all of your down travel in the front when you crank the torsion bars. I have a 2" lift on my sport and I only have about a 1" of down travel. I could have a little more if I shaved off some of the bumpstops. No, you need to buy what is meant for the Montero Sport. Except for the shackles. They are meant for a 82-84 Toyota pickup truck, but they work on the Sport. If you want a real suspension lift, and you got the $$$$ then I would look into getting this msport97.proboards6.com/index.cgi?board=off&action=display&n=1&thread=5054 Skid thanks alot. i checked out your site and it was alot of help. but i have one more question will any ome or ironman or rancho suspension work on the montero?

I just wanted to clarify on one part. Skid wrote that you can also add leafs to the leaf springs. In another situation, that might work. However, on the 98 MS, the leaf springs are UNDER the axle. So if you add a leaf, its going to lower the vehicle, not raise it. Doing an axle flip would give you at least four inches higher than what you have(and I have yet to do this so I am unsure of exactly how high it would take it. Thats all, I agree with everything else he said. Be careful, be prepared, and keep flyin!

So if you add a leaf, its going to lower the vehicle, not raise it. Folks, just don't want bad information out there, you can do what is called an AAL lift. AAL - Add A Leaf This is done every day to other vehicles, even vehicles that are "Spring under Axle" and is also done to "SOA" or Spring Over Axle, usually shortned to just, for example: "I used an Add-a-Leave with my Spring Over and netted 2" extra of lift." This is VERY common on Jeeps, Toyotas, and more. All Jeeps came spring UNDER axle and I can name at least 5 companies right now that make AAL lifts for spring under. So, to get the lift in the rear you can do a few things: 1)AAL (not sure who makes them for a Montero Sport, but leaf springs are easy to get made up from various factories that make them) 2) Custom made leaf spring packs 3) Have your springs "re-arches" (probably the least favorite way) 4) Longer shackles SOA lifts are good, but you have to watch it and do it right or you'll end up with axle wrap pretty bad and could snap your pinion, drive shaft, among other things.
