Joel,
I want to remove those two little "Bumperet's" at the front end of the frame rails, or at least mount a 2" reciever hitch tube at the bottom of the front of each frame rail, so I can have made a removable custom bumper made, but will come up in front of the bumperet's of will be a strong enough bumper to keep them from getting hit, unless very hard front end collision!
So, do the actually fire off the SRS airbags or is the switch not related. I did not see any wires or switch running to or into them.
Thansk for any help you or some else can provide.

I believe the Montero Sport uses decelerometers. Meaning they can tell how fast you go from xxmph to 0mph. They can quickly tell the amount of force and deploy the airbags if you stop too quickly.
We're talking like 60mph to 0mph in 2 seconds.

Cerof,
I figured they used that type of sensor to activate the airbags, but someone posted some time back that those little bumper looking things at the end of the front frame rails have something to do with the activation of the airbags and to remove or block is a no-no.
