I'm looking at a Warn M8000 (an 8,000 lb, single-line unit) and I think it should be more than capable for any job I might encounter.
I probably would never use the single line approach, anyways, unless there was no other choice.

I stalled out my XD9000 on my Grand Cherokee using a snatch block, with only one layer on the drum.
The grand cherokee fully loaded and packed for a 2 week expedition weighed in at 4900lbs.
The Montero Sport will weigh about the same as that empty!
I'd get the most winch you can afford.
Don't get cheap on recovery equipment. Remember you may be pulling someone else out in addition to yourself.
The 9,000lbs winch isn't too much more than the M8000.
I think you are making the best choice of winch brand for sure.
On my trek through Canada, out of 15 vehicles, all had a warn winch except for one. the group was comprised of virtually every type of vehicle you could name that has a low range. Including an LX470 (aka Toyota land Cruiser) sitting on 35" tires with the stock suspension.
Also, a Land Rover tips the scales at 7,000lbs fully loaded, x2 is 14,000lbs so you can quickly get close to the full pulling power of an 8K winch.
Also, you won't work your winch, kill your battery, kill your alternator as easily if you have a stronger winch to begin with. It is easier on all aspects of the recovery. You, the vehicles, the vehicle parts, etc, etc.

Which btw, you have the Old Man Emu suspension, right? Are you interested in going on ARB USA's 3rd Annual American Outback expedition? It will be a tough, fully self contained trip, tent camping, cooking over a fire or stove, through I believe Colorado this year. It is hosted by ARB and is by invitation only. People from top manufacturers will be in attendance as well as some of ARB's distributors, reporters from various magazines, etc. Shoot me a PM if you are interested and I can see about getting you an invitation. The one caveat is that I get to ride shotgun and shoot pictures of you and the trip.

I do have the OME, except for the rear shocks...(don't know if you remember, they broke...I was pretty disappointed, I didn't even get 6 months out of them.) I am interested, however my equipment is not fully OME anymore. Maybe you could help me out getting new ones, with some of your contacts? I didn't save my reciept, but I still have high resolution digital photos as proof. ;D

shoot me a PM.
There are some things about the trip that are pretty cool and does potentially include some discounts on some parts, etc.
As of now, I believe the trip will be in the middle or towards the end of next september.

I broke one of my shocks 7 months into owning it. One of the seals broke and the fluid inside leaked out. I didn't have my receipt but OME kindly replaced it (I had to pay for the replacement and sent back my old unit - but it took about 7 days to get my reimbursement check after they inspected it). All shocks apparently are date stamped and warrantied for 2 years.
