Are the running boards on the limited very easy to scrape when off roading? Do they take some abuse or will they get damaged easily? Has anyone removed theirs? I use my 90 Tracker for wheeling but would like to take some trips with the MS. I just don't want to damage it too much.

Well, I know the 97-99 running boards can't take much. and I would think the 02+ MS running boards are even weaker. I have put plenty of dents in my running boards and I always try not to use them when 4 wheeling. If you don't want to damage them take them off. I kept mine on because they did give my some protection. The running boards from the 97-99 are made from a very soft aluminum. skidplate4x4.tripod.com/TrailDamage/TrailDamage.htm Skid Are the running boards on the limited very easy to scrape when off roading? wow those are some fair sized dents you took on your running boards. i guess it beats getting that same type of dent on your rocker panels or something else. its always best to beat up stuff that is fully replaceable with minimum labor.

I would't get upset about denting them like you did. I just don't want to rip them off.

with carefull spotting you can do up to a 3 out of 5 trails with no problems or damage to your running boards with 32" tires aired down to about 13psi. Ends up making them about as tall as a 31" tire.
Now the mud flaps and exhaust pipe in the rear may take some damage.
I'd remove the mudflaps and I always carry a small hack saw for any exhaust modifications ;D needed when on the trail.

Good point CerOf, Remove your mudflaps you will rip them off. I ripped off 2 of the 4 mudflaps. You can just unscrew the front ones and take them off, but the back ones you may have to cut off it depend on what year MS you have. Then I put on some cheep rubber mudflaps on the back. Skid P.S. I have rock slider now, So I don't have to worry about my cheepo side steps anymore. with carefull spotting you can do up to a 3 out of 5 trails with no problems or damage to your running boards with 32" tires aired down to about 13psi. P.S. I have rock slider now, So I don't have to worry about my cheepo side steps anymore. Those "cheapo" side steps from the factory on limites and like the ones that came on my XLS are EXPENSIVE, to the tune of $300+ each.

I took mine off of my 99, I think it looks better actually. They also rubbed on my jeans whenever I got in and out of it = dirty pants. Those things were useless.
