Which model are you looking into right now? ES, LS, Limited, etc...? Also, are you going to be off-roading or just want a sporty SUV?

Get the 4x4 if money is not the subject. I made wrong decision 2 years ago by not getting the 4x4 because I told myself I don't need it and I am not going 4wheelin. I've change my mind . Man, what was I thinking that time. It's too late now. Don't make the same mistake like I did or you'll blame yourself later.

All,
I don't know where all of you are from but here in Colorado you're blowing money by not buying a 4x4. If you have a 2WD truck you will get shafted by the dealer and if you try to sell it on your own because of the lack of 4x4 which everyone wants out here, even though only about 30% of the people even use it. Wantams said it was a 4x4 which is cool, I can't comment on the 2002 but I love my 1999 LS. Power is the only thing I WISH it had more of. I did the Injen intake and gained some. I have a set of manual hubs on order to gain some more. Then I need to head over to the exhaust shop and see about getting a cat-back system put on it for even more. Granted I'm not planning on racing it but when you've driven a 4.3L Vortec V6 for the last 3 years it's hard to drop down to the 3.0L. Repair costs are another minor issue I have with them but the saying goes " You take care of it, and it will take care of you " definitely applies here! Run synthetics and change it often, don't abuse it and it'll last a long time!
Good Luck,
Todd

wantams, I have a 2001 LS 4x4 and am extremely happy with it. No problems. The only real issue I have with it is that the 3.0 is pretty weak on the top end. I have to carefully choose when and where to pass another vehicle. Low-end grunt is very good. Have done some very mild offroad...muddy vineyard trails, beach sand, etc., and the LS has handled flawlessly.
If I needed to buy another Montero Sport, I would. If I had a choice, I'd go for the 3.5 engine.
Cheers, Stod
