There is a noise coming from the front of my montero sport. It seems to be coming from the right side under the dash. Its subtle and hard to hear if you have the radio on. It is prominent just before applying the brake, after taking my foot off the gas. The noise is hard to describe, but it sounds like a mechanism, like an electric automatic camera lens focusing. Does anyone else have this problem???

I have the same sound in my 02 LS. The dealer said it is the transmission and it is normal. He said some insulation was left out of a group of vehicles and he didn't know if there would be a recall.

Guys...I know just exactly what noise your talking about. Believe me, I've torn apart many MS dashes trying to find this one.... Mitsubishi has JUST released a TSB on this one involving the application of body sealant, padding, and an updated automatic trans shift cable and clip. Have your local dealership refer to TSB-02-23-005 for this one...affects only 2002 2wd models.
Good Luck,

Thanks Joel, I have a slight stutter in my 02 LS. The engine seems to be running smooth but the vehicle surges a bit. Could this be the torque converter not locking up? I took it in once but they did not notice it. I sure do. Thanks again for the TSB on the noise problem.

JimR02,
Have you taken in your vehicle about the noise yet? I am having the same problem and will probably be contacting them soon with that TSB. Just wanted to see how it is going.
