Hi folks, just found this site from the Running Board. Time for my 30K chkup. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on all the work the standard Mits Warr & Maint manual suggests. My dealer also adds in a separate page of sugg work. Some of it seems unneccesary. Specifically, if my truck is running fine do I need to: replace the spark plugs? change auto trans fluid? change engine coolant? replace fuel filter, distr cap & rotor? set timing & idle spec? service fuel injection system? (dealer told me this should be done every 15K mi, said if I didn't 'one day the truck might not start & it would be expensive to fix'. what are they talking about? what kind of service do they do, just put in a fuel additive or cleaner?) I have a 2000 MS XL w/33,000 mi, DIS air filter & synth oil. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. Lo in VA

No on the plugs and coolant. Your engine is equipt with Iridium tipped plugs that will last over 60K. Your cooling system is also filled with long life coolant that should take you to the 60K mark as well. (You do not have a distributor cap/rotor on this type of ignition system though I would recommend replacing the wires at 60K when you replace the plugs. Yes to the transmission service.. and yes to the fuel injection service ESPECIALLY if you've been running this whole time using Premium fuel...in which case I'd recommend going back to regular unleaded after your fuel injector /decarb flush. Yes to the fuel filter as well...no timing adjustments available and idle speed should not be disturbed unless the battery has been replaced or disconnected.
