I have a rattling noise coming from underneath my 97 MS. It does it when I take off alot. I have been told it may be the muffler b/c of something wrong w/the muffler on my yr MS but does it at different speeds. If anyone had had this problem or knowsd anything about it pls help me out b/c its driving me insane. I always thought it was the skidplate but I may be wrong. Pls help before I go mad!!

Also check out the Cat Converter. Just had to replace that in my Volvo...rattling sound under the car at acceleration.

The muffler in the 97 and early production 98 Montero Sports have been known to lose a welding withing the muffler can- causing it to rattle at certain RPM's. There is an updated muffler available that has been installed during production of the later 98 to current Montero Sports. You'd be better off purchasing a Flowmaster or other aftermarket exhaust muffler and having a muffler shop weld it in. It would be much cheaper that way than to purchase a factory unit.
