Have an 00 XLS with 51K miles. Just put on the Yokahama HTS G051's and they told me the shocks probably should be changed soon. I prefer a softer comfortable ride but dont want to sacrifice cornering. This thing never see's offroad use and the NYC area is full of potholes. Are the Edelbrok IAS shocks good? I know this vehicle has a high rollover rate so I dont want a shock that could contribute to that at all. Anyone have any recomendations? Also where's the best place to or der them online?

I have those KYB's on my 01 LS 2wd. To be honest I am not convinced but I am a picky person. I obviously with a 2wd only do city driving but I feel there too soft. Also, your 1st generation MS is alot stiffer because of the rear suspension, although alot of people complain about the ride on the 1st gen I actually prefer it over the current models seems "stronger" "tighter".

hi, Oh darn, now I've visited another part of the site... and I have some input. I've run KYB shocks on 4 different '88 Montero's for a total of way the heck over 480,000 miles. Buy what you want but if you can get a better shock please let me know. I've never had a leak or a failure. You said "street" but I run under all conditions except racing. You named a shock modle?.. heck I don't know, should I look up the reciept? After over 200,000 miles you expect me to have the reciept? When I took the first set of OEM shock off you could cycle them with your... oops this is family web site.... well just say they were limp. I think the KYB's are ten times the shock as OEM. I bought my EX a Raider and swapped my 100K Kyb's into her rig and the were still working fine. Still are at 200K.

OLD... I believe the OEM shocks are KYBs... I think they are the Gas-a-Just model... not positive though.

I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews about the edelbrock IAS shocks for SUV's. Do they make them for an 00 Montero sport? Has anyone used them? I think they only made them for a MS up to 97? But nothing earlier.
Also, is it easy to change the front struts and rear shocks on these in your own garage? Anything special I might need?

i was doing someresearch on the Tokico Trek Master R/T's and found them to be pretty good. i think the price of them where around $50 a shock on
truckperformance.com
i put a couple of posts up about them but nobody has ever respnded or has tryed them. so i desided to drop my MS and go with some custom drop shocks from Toxic Shock.

No struts to change in the front. The front shocks are SUPER easy to swap out. I found them easier than the rear. For some reason on my '01 sport, the nut was hard to get at. Dropping the spare tire may make it easier to get to the nut. I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews about the edelbrock IAS shocks for SUV's. Do they make them for an 00 Montero sport? I would be interested in doing the change myself also, but have no idea where to start... I'm mechanically inclined... but just haven't ever done that type of work.

OK called KYB, spoke with their technical sales rep, according the them they do not make any Monomax Shocks for the 2000 on up montero sport (only 99 and below). They have a different one but have not heard anyone really liking it. Edelbrock does not make anything either for an 2000 on up MS. Whats left? Is anything by Monroe or Bilstien good for the MS? again I dont want a firm/harsh ride but I would like to pick up the slouching corners. Dont want to spend more that $50 a shock (saving for a C-6 summer car) either so Tokico's are kind of out. Any other recomendations for an everyday use shock?
