Hi, I have a 97 XLS 4WD and would like to learn how to increase the ground clearnce on the truck by 1-1.5 inches so I can fit 32" tires on it?
Any thoughts on how to do this without installing a lift kit?
Thanks, Brian

Should be able to fit them no problems in the rear. For the front, Crank your front torsion bars up 1" and you should be okay.
I was able to fit a 265/75R16 tire stock on our Montero Sport XLS 4WD and with the 2" lift I have that much more clearance.

CerOf, Do you have any pics of how to crank up the torission bars? At least, where the torision bars are located and how crank them? I have never done any suspension work on cars, so I am a bit lost here.
Thanks, Brian

Cerof,
It's RJ (tozovr) from JU...
On my '03, do I need the OME springs and torsion crank to fit 32x11.5's? I have the stock 15" wheels on it. What is the bolt pattern/BS? They look just like toyotas.....

I don't have pictures, sorry. Do a search and someone on here does.
Hey RJ!
With the 15" rims I am not sure. I don't know if the backspacing is different compared to the 16" rims on our '01.
I fit 265/75R16 stock. With 2" of lift I feel confident I could fit 33x10.5" tires on there.
I am thinking that most 11.5" tires are the same width as 265, so if backspacing is the same, which it should be I think...you should be a-okay.
When I bought my tires at Sam's Wholesale Club, I had them install one on the front to see first.
Before I did that, I ran my vehicle up on a tall curb with only one front tire and turned the steering wheel every way to see the clearance. I don't recall how much clearance I had before the larger tires, but right now I can go about 1.5" wider or about .75" out from the centerline of the tire.

OK, the MS has the same bolt pattern as the Toyota pickup (as well as the ACURA SLX, Chevy 1500 Pickup 99+, Izusu trooper, Nissan Pathfinder and a few more...), But i'm not sure abou the same backspacing....
I have a set of 32x11.5 Dunlop Mud rovers on black Rock Crawlers from one of my Toyotas.....hmmmmmmm Time to see what works....
