Anyone try to remove cross bars on the roof rack to eliminate some wind noise? Was it successful? Was it necessary to remove the end caps, or can it be jimmied(is that a word?)? Its a 2000 ls.

...since they "de-contented" the 2001 MS vs. the '00, I have to go out and spend hundreds of dollars to make my "roof rails" functional, as a roof rack by purchasing the cross bars and locking attachments - I'd gladly put up with a little bit of wind noise. I can't provide any info about removing them on the '00, but I'd sure like to be in your situation. Looking at the "add-ons" I have to buy, I think my wind noise factor will be even higher. Plus, the situation of needing to put something up-top...and damn, left my cross bars in the garage, uugghhh! Anybody out there purchased the cross bar stuff for the '01/'02, yet? Any input? Cheers, Stod

Hi Jersey Sport: I can get the Yakima crossbars, locking mechanisms, rack basket, etc. through my local Mitsu dealer. Got the prices a few weeks ago...now I've got to find the brochure on which I wrote the prices - lost in the "get-to-someday" pile, I think !! As soon as I find it, I'll compare the prices to any Yakima stuff I can find online. I think with the crossbars, locks, and basket it came to somewhere around $450, or so. Without the basket, somewhere around $280. Not sure. Will find out if I can find that d*!^n brochure!! BTW, how much windnoise do you get with the Yakima crossbars...they seem much higher and more square in shape than the factory stuff (i.e. 2000)? Thanks and Cheers, Stod

jay, i usually go to allaire in howell, which is about 5 minutes from my house. its real sweet there. there is also this place i was told about in the highlands, by sandyhook which is supposed to be real good, but very hilly.
stod, your probably better off just getting them from a local store, the dealer is always more money. and about the noise. when i dont have my snowboard attachment or bike attachments on there its pretty loud, but for some reason when the attachments are on its not loud. nothing to worry about. jersey sport
