I have a sealed box for two 12's. I'm really tempted on buying a couple of Audiobahn subs off of ebay- cause their cheap a look pretty good. Has anyone tried these? My friend had some MTX 8000's- possibly the hardest hitting subs I've ever heard-just expensive. Am I better off- overall saving money for the more expensive types? I'm not a huge bass fanatic- so...

Audiobahn makes some good stuff. They also make alot of different subs, so I can't really say if the ones you are looking at are good or not. I have had good experiences buying stereo equipment off ebay, just remember to buy off someone that has alot of good feedback.

True, but I got the orginal subs for free- " Thump" brand. They work pretty well- just would like more crispness to my bass.

I would caution you to research the subs your looking at and go to audiobahns web site to check there specs. A lot of subs are picky when it comes to enclosures. When a box is the wrong size you make it easier for the subs to blow plus it really effects the sound and power handling..

In an MS or any SUV id do a sealed box. Thats what I have and it does pretty well. Anything else and you might get alot of port noise.

Well as always i have to put my 2 cents in. Bandpass, sealed or ported all depends on what u want and what type of music u listen to. I preffer a ported box take less power to be load and is nice and boomie, normally your accustic type of base isnt al that great so when i listen to rock it dont sound as well as a sealed box. Sealed boxes are great, for rock or other types of music with accustic bass will have a deeper sound and not be as bommie. This will be a nice and clean sound As for band pass i dont really know about them i just base my oppinion on others i have herd and read they sux. But again that is an oppinion! Dont know if that helps or not but just wanted to throw that out! Lata

technically there are 9 kinds of bandpass box's thats one reason why your subs are picky on internal demensions and port size. Usually you wont get port noise unless your building your own box. As far as the sound goes you can take a $20 woofer a 50 watt amp and make a lot of noise with bandpass. IT is a lot easier to blow a woofer in bandpass and if you like sound quality it really isnt the way to go.

If your building your own enclosure, sealed is the way to go. You can typically get away with a much smaller enclosure than ported or bandpass, and they don't require much as far as planning or calculating internal volume, etc. Just be sure that it is completely sealed, internally braced, and stuffed with loads of cotton, polyfill, or insulating fiberglass. The result will be extremely low and accurate bass. Ported enclosures require precise planning as far as internal cubic area, port length, and port width. You just can't slap any woofer into any ported enclosure and expect it to hit hard and accurate. The enclosue has to be "tuned" to the woofer for it to sound good. The bonus is, you'd get an additional 3db's out of it when compared to a sealed enclosure using the same woofer and the same amount of amplifier power. If you want volume and your pretty handy in woodwork and mathematical caluclations, ported is an excellent choice. Bandpass applications is NOT for your average weekend install. Carefull mathematical planning has to go to the design of the enclosure based on the woofer being used. Low end frequency response will be lacking.... but BOY WILL IT BE LOUD WITHIN THE ENCLOSURES FREQUENCY RANGE with minimal power. Woofers are easily overtaxed in a bandpass simply because any distortion or bottoming out of the woofer won't be heard because of the natural crossover characteristics of the bandpass. The woofer will be screaming for mercy, but you'll never know until the voice coil melts. Quality woofers recommended for this one.

I would assume that al best buys are the same, but i could be wrong as far as labor costs . We charge 55 bucks for a 2 channel amp install plus the cost of the wiring (amp kit). Most of the time ill just toss the subs into the box for no charge but i think some stores actually charge 12 dollars a sub Adam
