I know this was brought up once before but couldn't find it. Anybody know what is the largest size monitor I can install in the dash, 6.5" or 7"? I keep looking at some of the Alpine 7" monitors and the prices keep going lower so..... never know I may "need" one.

Always been a Sony or Alpine (in that order) kind of guy with the exception of amps Rockford, Sony/Alpine only. What can you tell me about the Kenwood that might change my mind?

Well im not tryin to change anyones mind, you like what you like. Alpine is overpriced for what you get in my opinion, not saying there stuff isnt decent its just to expensive to get somthing of good quality. I dont know what to think about sony alot of there stuff is really nice, my entire home theater is Sony but it just seems like htere car audio stuff is kinda cheaply made. Ive always been a fan of rockford, and pioneer but the kenwood in-dash screens ive seen are really cool. We have one at Best Buy thats touchscreen with all the trimmins, its pretty neat. I guess what im saying is its a good unit without spending 3000 bucks.

OK, will try to keep an open mind on this.
Did some more investigating found out it looks like Sony stopped making the XAV-7W monitor (needs a separate DVD player/changer to run DVDs) so that option might be completely out, too bad it's got good write ups. Sony also seems to have discontinued their Mobile ES line which is also very unfortunate because that's the line I've always liked.
Alpine has several options but most are $1500-3000 whew, gonna need a new job.
Still looking into Panasonic and Kenwood.
Sort of ruled out Eclipse on the basis of "cosmetics" they just don't "do it" for me.
Fosgate has a DVD as well, price is nice but the write up wasn't too reassuring.

Ill just stear clear of the whole brand thing cuz i got in troble over that one last time, lol! Im an alpine guy to but the kenwood stuff has impressed me in the past and i have played with the kenwood's before they are nice. I was close to buying a pionier on a while back they arent to bad! Let me throw something else at ya! could save ya some coin! I oppted to buy just a screen, let me explane. I bought a mobile tv 5.6 screen for like 200bucks then a power inverted and then tru in my ps2. I had a head unit to support the tv so i just plugged it in, however if u have even the stock headunit u can get an converter so that the tv makes a fm signal that the headunit pics up. Check out ebay u can get 2 7" moniters and a dvd player on ther for like 300 or so so just think how many screens u can get for the 1500 u were going to drop on the alpine! Just a thought, lata
Just cutt it!

7" fits...i have had mine in for almost year now, and screw the brands...get a nice TFT LCD screen that you think looks good...i have a performance technique and love it...save your cash...don't waste another $300+ on a name brand...

Well i dont agree with the no brand name thing, but if u are going to do that check into the screen first. There are some good ones and there are some real bad ones. A friend of mine bought a 7" one that was cheep and werx good but if u are sitting at the side of it its hard to see, thats not good in a car! so name brands arent always the best but the ones with out can be the werst so check into it first. I run mobile tv screens and they have a great quality picture, thats what i recomend! they are a il more but werth it! Lata

this is why i said get a TFT...TFT LCD when compared to just a LCD monitor is where the difference is. TFT allows you to view the picture from any angle like new plasma tv's or your laptop monitor...if your having it done at a shop, have them plug it into your setup and view it before the final install...brand name is not everything...
also, relocate your head unit to the lower area by the shifter (where the mitsu cd changer would go, and the cut-out for a double din deck fits a 7" beautifully...check out my gallery, or my cardomain site for the final product.

TFT (Thick Filmed Transistor) is just a means of how each pixel is turned on or off- it has nothing to do with the off axis viewing angle ability of the actual screen. I've seen some seriously lacking TFT no name LCD screens out there on the market- they all usually made by some 3rd world country , rebadged, and sold for cheap. Not saying that brand names don't have their screens built by outside vendors, but they do have the best screens out there as they try to maintain their reputation.
