Where can I tap into a preamp out? I believe the amp for the back speakers is near the back of the car, but I am not sure the exact location (which side? under which panel?)
My goal is to keep the infinity system and speakers, but just add the extra low end with a few 8" subs that I plan to flush mount under the floor storage bins in the cargo area. I think the infinity system is loud and clear, but not thumpy enough.
I could use a line level converter, but I would prefer to get to the pre's.
Thanks in advance. -Tom

install a line out converter behind your factory deck, so that way if you ever decide to replace the infinity system for whatever reason your RCAs are right there. If you dont know your wire colors go to an electronics store with an install bay, buy a radio wire harness and use that to figure out the rear speaker wire colors....

Actually, I believe the head unit puts out line levels. In addition, I think the amp is near the back. I wanted to tap into the wires and crossover the sound before it hits the front 4 speakers to lighten the load of the lower bass notes. It will make things less distorted and the lows wont fight with the subs, which can cause phase problems..
Plus, the subs will mount in the back so it would be easier to tap the wires near the rear of the vehicle. I won't deal with possible noise and the signal path will be shorter which is always good in car stereos.
I appreciate the input. I really need confirmation that the infinity head unit is not powered. Then, I would like to know the location of the amp. I am trying to gather all info so I can open things up once and do it right the first time.
I'll post pics when I get it finished.. I think it is gonna be a solid and unintrusive implementation..

So here is where I am at. I am looking for a connector to splice into the wiring to the amp. It looks as though I can hijack the line signal before it hits the amp in the back and send a portion of it to the amp for the sub. I dont plan to go too big with the power for the subs. I am going to attempt to use the cigarette lighter power outlet in the back of the vehicle b/c 20A should suffice and it is already run fused and grounded. for those of you that want to see where the amp is, there are some pics here: dragbody.home.mindspring.com/infinity/They are basic pics of the amp and the wiring harness. To get the panel off, you just pull. It is held in with little plastic things like everything else on the vehicle. I'll post more when I find the right connector. If any of you find it, let me know. Otherwise, I may attempt to splice into it.
