I'm having radio reception problems with my '99 Montero Sport. I managed to get to the power antenna (that was fun) and found no evident problems there. Didn't notice anything loose behind the radio. At times the recption will be fine, then it will drop. Get local stations ok, but other distant stations I lose. Any ideas where else to look for a possible loose connection/problem? I have a power antenna & it appears there's also an antenna in the left rear window. Thanks for any help!

If you have an antenna in the rear window, then you've got a stock Infinity system with diversity antenna. The radio will use whichever antenna system that receiving the stronger signal. HOWEVER- if the rear window was tinted with aftermarket tint, it can cause major reception problems regardless of which antenna the radio is feeding from. Good Luck!

Thanks again Joel! I tore it apart last night with no luck. Wonder if just leaving the rear antenna unplugged would be better?

There's only one way to find out and that's to give it a try Are you sure you are tuning into a strong signal? If you are picking up RF interference coming through the speakers when the station is weak, i have found that adding a ground strap between the hood and the firewall works GREAT in eliminating the noise. There was a TSB for such a problem on the 01 Montero and i tried it on other vehicles with excellent results. Joel, CA

Yes - I was picking up these stations fine, but then they dropped. At times they will come back in then drop out quick. Even local stations have a bit of static in them when this occurs. Ever hear of any power antenna problems? I was thinking of replacing it with one of those Eurostyle power antenna fix kits from AntennaX. Thanks again for the advice.

Did you fix the problem? I have the same problem except i can only pick up stations once in a blue moon. If i am lucky enough to get a station it will drop after a while. Checked the connections in the back and everything looked ok. Let me know what yuo did to resolve it. I'm willing to try anything. Been without the radio for over a year! THANKS
