Hey guys, im sure this question has been asked thousands of times, but this is my first time here.... I have a 00 LTD Sport. It has the infinity sound system. I want to simply replace the head unit with an mp3/cd player. Will this affect performance, or say the retraction of the antenna? And what head unit would u guys recommend? ty for ur help

You'll need a seperate adapter so you can utilize the factory Infinity Amplifiers for your new deck. On top of that, a harness kit would also simplify your installation. Joel, CA

I used a harness...modified it to use the RCA pre outs of the deck I used and it worked fine. The best part is that ALL the factory wiring is still intact in case I get rid of my sport (god forbid!).
The adaptors are ok but can cause noise.
The whole issue with the system is that there is already an amp in the sytem (rear passenger side, over the wheel well). When you take the outputs of a newer head unit and run it into an apmlifier you typically get noise.
Ill see if I can find my old harness and provide the wiring positions....itll take a few days though, all my old stuff is in storage.
If your tech savy here you can easily figure it out...find the positives leads to the amp (front left and right and rear left and right). Find the common ground wire to the amp (should be the same for all four). Use a set of RCA's cut and modified to accept the outputs of the deck into the harness and youll be just fine. Center conductors of the RCAs will be positive and the outer sheilds will all be grounded together.
