I think my wife blew 3 of the 4 door speakers in her 1998 Montero Sport. The speakers rag out after reaching a certain volume. She has the infinity speaker system. I did not have a chance to check the speaker size yet but I thought I might be able to get some help on here.
What are the speaker sizes? Does anyone have some factory speakers for sale or should I buy new infinity speakers?
Thanks, Blake

Lumute, Do you know what series and model infinity speakers are used? I looked but I did not see the series and model. Where is the crossover located? Where is the amp located?
Thanks, Blake

Just hook it up with any good soundin pair of 6 1/2's. They need not be infinity. Try a nice pair of componets for the front.

Hey Akra, I had a question, I just had a new head unit installed, still running off the factory amp .. (00 MS w/inf system) Two of the speakers sound burnt out and i want to swap them, can i just plug and play? and second what do u recommend for speakers? is it better to get a simple 2 way speaker or say a 4 way speaker?

In the infinity system, there are 6.5" is the doors, 4" in the dash (by your knees) and the tweeters obviously high on the doors. I melted one of the 4" Infinity speakers (which are really more like 3" once you take the frame into consideration) causing it to make crunching noises whenever the voicecoil moved. I replaced with a pair of Infinity Reference series 4" and everything is good again. I would definitely recommend that you replace with matched quality speakers. It is worth the extra money. The dealer wanted $95 for one of the 3" paper cone speakers (that fit in the 4" hole). The Infinity 4012i Reference series replacements were $60 a pair for poly cone speakers that sound pretty darn good. If you blew the 6.5's, then I would probably replace with a set of components.
In my experience, name brand, high quality, matched speakers really do make a difference. I know I listen to more music in my car than anywhere else, so why take the cheap route. That is just my 2 cents.
