Greetings I have just purchased a 2003 montero sport that had a pioneer dvd player installed. While I have figured out how to load and play a dvd movie, I cannot get the sound. The stock cd player works of course and I'm not sure if I should be looking for a way to switch the input to aux (which would not utilize the equalizer goodies on the pioneer unit) or if there is probably some switch that changes the source unit for the speakers. I will probably check out the dealers for this but if anyone has a similar set-up, you could save me some time. A second question: The piioneer unit only operates when the engine is running, not on accesory. Is this standard or can it be wired to run on accessory. Thanks Hakuna ;D

Congrats on the purchase of the Montero Sport. The rca audio cables from the pioneer dvd unit could be unplugged or loose from the back of your head unit. You should be able to get audio if the cables are connected and your head unit is on INPUT or AUX mode. Make sure you check that the rca cables coming out of the pioneer dvd player are hooked up thightly. Depending on the manufacturer of your head unit the audio quality in AUX or INPUT mode is usually lower than cd-quality audio. Your pioneer dvd player could be wired to run on accessory but it has to be rewired to a different power source that only has power when on accessory such as the 12V cable that powers your head unit (perhaps you can wire it from there). A stereo shop can rewire it for you and it is probably cheaper than any dealer. Hope that helps!

Since you mentioned that you're using the stock CD player, the installation shop more than likely used an FM modulator as a means playing the DVD audio through the factory system. If that's the case, be sure the the FM modulator is powered and that the CD Player's tuner is tuned to the correct frequency. The install shop SHOULD give you a quick run through on how to operate your system.

if it's not any of those things above, it could be the system was set up to play only on head phones so mom and dad didn't have to listen to dora all day long.
