I recently installed an aftermarket alarm to my 2000 limited. It already has an existing factory alarm, but I wanted to upgrade for more options. When arming the aftermarket alarm, the doors lock and this triggers the factory alarm to arm as well. I ran into a problem when disarming. It will only unlock the doors about 1/4 of the time and when this happens, the factory alarm is still on. I had a few people tell me the new alarm is fighting with the factory alarm. The pulse from the new alarm was only a single (-) pulse and it was week, so I found a dual (+) pulse and converted this to a (-) via a relay. I am still having the same problem. >:( I need to know if there is any way to eliminate the factory alarm all together without wiring everything around the ETACS module. Any suggestions?
Thanks

i had a somewhat similar problem with my remote starter. i had to completely remove the security system.
most people, if not all, ignore honking horns and such anyways.

Okay! I figured it out. The aftermarket alarm ( Autopage RF-310 ) has a lock feature which was switching to ground and holding instead of just pulsing ground briefly to lock. So, when I pressed unlock, it was like pressing lock and unlock at the same time. I would have to wait about 15 seconds and try to unlock again and it would work fine. This explains why the lock would only move slightly when disarming. I am tapped into the black/blue and black/red wires at the back of the fuse box. I found another output from the autopage alarm which only pulses ground once. Problem fixed!!!! I switched the unlock pulse from two pulses back to one pulse and that works fine as well. Oh, and I just went over 100,000 miles on my trip to Colorado. Still runs like new ;D
