hi! forget this post. i already manage to take off the console. after tearing off almost the whole dash i found out that the radio surround is only held by clips!!! 4 clips 2 on top, 2 at the bottom. i just carefully fry it out, well after taking the SURROUND for the guage ,middle vent, temp. control (i wish i got pix for visual). then the radio and the box under it is held by 4 screws, 2 each side, then you could pull it out. i tap the 12v acc.(middle blue wire) with a quick tap no splicing needed, to get acc. power for my fm modulator, monitor, & vcr/tv tuner. constant 12v were taken from a fused line direct from the battery and routed inside through the small hole in the driver side. diego

2 clips on top, and 2 clips on side(almost bottom part.) a MS owner e-mail me about this post and wanted more detail. so i decided to fry mine off and take some pix. this is how i did mine, please don't held me responsible if yours break(i doubt), just be carefull, take it slowly, and fry it little by little all around. view pix here groups.msn.com/190e26airintake/shoebox.msnw?Page=2diego

diego,
thanks a lot for the pictures and such for the radio console. unfortunately, for me, i have a 99 MS. so my console is a little bit different.
wondering if anyone has any hints on how to get the console off for a 99. it appears that the piece that is on the front of the radio is larger and wider than the newer MSs. thanks in advance for this! (the local shop wants to charge me $80.00 to do this work, is it really worth that much?) -tony

ttsheng,
On my 98 I have to take off the panel under the steering wheel first (6 screws). When you take off that panel you will see one or two screws (can't remember) holding the radio console on that side, take those out too. Then open the glove compartment and take of the two screws to the left. Finally, take the ashtray out and you will see 2 screws on the topside where the ashtray goes. Take those out and then you should be able to carefully take out your radio console. Hope this helps
