I have been looking for a 99-2000 model MS and had a friend say his uncle who is a mechanic is always fixing them. What usually goes wrong? Does anyone have anything to add that I should look out for? Is this true? Thanks

I've seen several 97's rolling in with over 200K on the original engine- still as clean burning as ever! 2nd Generation Montero's with well over 350K on the original engine (same powertrain as 97-98 MS) is also a common event. There are absolutely NO specific problem areas in the Montero Sport lineup I can think of. As a Mitsubishi Technican and a Montero and Montero Sport owner...I can attest to the fact that they are absolutely VERY reliable vehicles. The engine and powertrain has been proven to be bulletproof my earlier generation fullsize Montero's. The steering and suspension may "loosen up" over time...but nothing that's not considered normal wear and tear. Just treat your vehicle right with proper maintenance and your vehicle will return the favor...

Have around 43,000 an my 2000. Made one repair-a transfer case switch-and I treat it like crap as far as where and how I drive it. Love it. Best 4x4 I've owned. 2000utesport M.S. nut
