Hi,
I have an '02 MS XLS with about 850 miles on it. The dealer told me not to go long distances with it for a while.
Would it be safe to drive about 100 miles and back now?
I didn't see anything in the manual on break in times.
Thank you,

The Manual asks that you take it easy on the truck for the first 350 miles. I was told that when you are breaking in a car / truck, you should never go faster that 60 MPH, dont drive on a consistant speed for a long time ( Vary your speed specially in the freeway ). Try not to slam on your brakes, and no WOT launches.. Atleast for the 1000 miles ???But then again a I could be wrong Have fun with your new TOY

To be more specific, you should vary your ENGINE speed throughout the break-in period. Highway driving will keep the engine speed within the same operating range for too long, which is not recommended for the first few hunder miles.

Hi,
So will I be safe with 850 miles on the truck? Or should I just vary my speed and go slower?
I have to pick someone up from Ohare, so its important I go.
I appreciate your replies!

You should be fine. ..Just try not to kill the engine on the way there. And varying the speed on the freeway is not a bad Idea...Have fun

and try not to gun it when you accelerate from start. and i think you should take it easy and not go over 3000 rpm for the first couple of hundred miles.
