Hi All,
I'd like to improve the sound system of my Montero Sport (2000 ES), but I don't want to change out the factory HU (I feel like the inside of the car looks ugly with an aftermarket HU). Would changing out the factory speakers improve the sound quality noticeably (I don't really want the car to be louder. I just want to be able to listen to music that has deep bass sounds without distorting high frequency tones). If I can get away with just changing out the speakers, does anyone have any suggestions?
Since my car already has high mileage (130K), I'd appreciate any speaker suggestions that wont break the bank.

replacing your speakers is a great place to start improving the sound. hard to wrong with some pioneers or jensens. Those are good upgrades from factory. you might want to think about two-ways for the rear and plain woofer replacement for the front doors. there are tweeters you can replace later.

Polk Audio make some really nice speakers for about $100 a pair. I'm not sure on the size for your model, but all of Polk speakers are good for the price and are marine approved.

Go to www.crutchfield.com. It will give you an idea of what size speakers you have and an idea of how much speakers will cost. They also throw in free install kits for most speakers.
