Thanks for your reply Brewster, but I had the car turned off, the key was in the acc position. I have driven the car to empty several times, but every time I fill it up, it only registers 77 miles distance to empty. I unhooked the battery in hopes that would reset the memory, but that did not work.

Okay- here are the instructions on how to reset the RV meter of the 2001 and newer Montero's. - With the key in the off position- push and hold the DISP button down on the RV meter
- While continuing to hold the DISP button down, turn the ingition switch to the ACC position. Keep holding the DISP button until you hear a beep tone which will last for about 10 seconds
- The RV meter should instruct you to turn the key to the ON position. This will initiate the "systems-connection" test
- After the test is completed (approximately 8-10 seconds), you can continue following the prompts to reset the compass.
To prevent the RV meter from going out of calibration, try to allow for at least 6.6 gallons of actual gasoline intake per fill up. Meaning- not to continually attempt to keep the tank full with $3-$5 worth of gasoline at seperate fillups. The best RV accuracy can be obtained if you do this reset proceedure immediately AFTER having filled up your tank (do NOT top off by continually attempt to pump even after the auto shut off has stopped gasoline flow).
