Hi all. I'm from Australia and joined the board to get more ideas on modding my Challenger for off road touring. Here's some pics of what I've got. So far I have a 2" body lift, 265/75/16 Maxxis Bighorns on 16x8 rims, UHF in dash (custom) with 6db Ant, firestone rear air bags (ride rites). Next on the long list is a winch bar and lights.

Very nice! So the Montero Sport is called a Challenger in Austrailia. Cool! Check out the off-roading section of thew forums. I think you'll find some good discussions in there.

Good luck on finding a winch bar in oz mate, I gave up, a mob in Perth brings them in from asia but they are Triton ones and are not rated for airbags on Challenger, so no insurance cover. I have seen a few4x4 locally with a tow bar attached to the front and you can get a winch cradle to fit the towbar, so you can use the winch front and back and stow it when not in use.

Arb makes them. I have one on my sport and it gets a lot of compliments!

Arb makes them. I have one on my sport and it gets a lot of compliments! You are correct but ARB only made those bars to fit 1998-2000 model Challengers. arb.com.au/products/arb-protection-equipment/bull-bars/deluxe-bull-bars/3435010/They did not go ahead with production due to poor sales and could not justify the production changes, testing and re-fittment so it was dumped. They have share holders to look after so the guys wanting a 4x4 different from the rest of the crowd miss out. The grill needs to be cut and window washer bottle moved/changed. The bar can be "made" to fit but it is not a "true fit" and legal issues may arise if an accident was to occur let alone insurance not covering you or third parties damge bill!!! I might do some investigations to see if I can legally fit because it is only cosmetic changes that were made to the front for the 2001+ models. I am at my wits end and sick of uising my warn xp as a giant paper weight.

here is my winch. Good idea mate. I was thinking of making a permanent mount behind the plastic bumper with a cut out for a hawse failead, but your idea makes use of winching off the rear hitch. Can you fit the winch if alone or is it a two person job. (heavy!!) It may be my last resort.

The arb I mounted on mine is not only excellent quality. It is air bag approved. Winch capable. But extremely easy to mount and not a bad price. The summit brand winches have the same mounting pattern as the warn and have more pulling power. And are hundreds cheaper. Which would you prefer? Something that has been made to withstand anything you throw at it? Or a homemade un-tested bar that will most likely fail under pressure.ARB put in the rich time with this bar. img522.imageshack.us/img522/212/img20100926190412.jpg

It is a nice option to be able to use it in the rear also. I was going to get the ARB, but my winch would not fit on it plus it is not made for the 2002. Mine is very strong and well braced, bolted directly to the frame. It has function flawlessly so far. No need to carry around a heavy bull bumper and winch every day on a daily driver. For my purposes, much better than the ARB.

Hence legal and insurance reasons I and and a a lot of other Aussie Challengers do not have winch bars.

All you do is move the washer fluid tank and notch the grill a bit. It bolts directly on. The arb weighs at like 78 lbs. A good investment. Took me 15-30 minutes to put on.
