Well, here is the problem, and of course my wife was driving the vehicle at the time so who knows. Anyway, the A/T light stays on, the brake light stays on, the battery indicator stays on and the blinkers/hazard lights do not work. The vehicle starts and runs fine. I disconnected the battery hoping i could reset the chip, but idiot lights are still on. I checked the fuses, all in good working condition. I engaged the 4WD with the same results. I know if I take this to a dealer they are going to rape me on this. If i do decide take it to a dealer i would rather have some kind of idea what is wrong so i can limit the financial damage the dealer will attempt to impose. The vehicle is a 2001 Montero (not the sport). On top of all that there has been this nagging problem with the lighter not working as well as the adapter receptical inside the console not working. I checked the fuses for this and cannot figure out why they dont work. Any help with the diagnosis of the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I could be way off base here but possibly your Altenator is going out. From past experience, as the battery drains due to a faulty altenator, more problems will arise (lights coming on) til the car just dies. Just a thought and I am sure Joel can set me straight as he is our Guru here and is Golden Loren

Thanks for the quick response. I hadn't thought of that. Sorry to hear about your problems. I could be way off base here but possibly your Altenator is going out. Like I said, I could be way off base and don't mean to cause you any exta work, but just go to your local auto parts store and most will check them them out for you for free. Loren

I bought an 01 Galant last October and it intermitantly had the brake and battery lights going off. The shop replaced the battery, computer and alternator under warranty. The actual problem was a loose connection under the hood!

I would agree with the idea keith has that it is a connection or lack of grounding of the circuits.
