It will wipe out your viscus coupler in the t-case you will need a 2w-4w t-case to do manual hubs.

What about air lockers, are they safe to use with the AWD on a 2002 sport?

Would it be possible to run it in 4WD to avoid damage to the T-case? After typing that I realize how dumb that sounds, but could it be true? Locking it into 4WD will preserve the coupler by bypassing it, right?
Would the drag from running the T-case in 4WD just offset the savings of running with unlocked hubs? I think I grasping at this point...

What about air lockers, are they safe to use with the AWD on a 2002 sport? Yes. Primarily, because you will be in 4WD Hi/Lo when the locking differentials are engaged. You DO NOT run locking differentials on the street and you still can not engage the lockers in AWD. Yes. The t-case uses a viscous coupling (center differential) for AWD, but in 4WD the t-case locks front and rear. So, disconnecting the front hubs wouldn't do any damage. It will not save you anything because the entire drive train turns when in 4WD right out to the hubs. You'll still be spinning all that hardware. You will not cut down on maintenance, it will not improve gas mileage and the first time you forget or someone else drives your vehicle and pops it into AWD, you can kiss your t-case good bye. That is a VERY expensive piece of equipment. There is no way to end up with 2WD in an AWD vehicle without changing out the t-case assembly for a 2WD/4WD t-case - and then you loose your AWD. Sports never came with a 2WD/4WD/AWD t-case. Edward
