Well I sunk my Montero sport 3.5 xls up to about the door handles and it got hydro-locked, on top of that when I turned the key I turned it to far and it turned over destroying all the internals. So I bought a new (used) motor and tranny and dropped them in Sunday (7-17-11) and got everything running smooth (kinda) lol the motor idles good and the tranny shifts ok but theres a slight vibration every once in awhile like it might be the drive shaft but everything is bolted down tight? Also the motor is sluggish it use to take off now its slow on take off and acceleration...idk any suggestions would be helpful. Oh and Ive done like 220 miles on it so far and after work today it did that whole flashing neutral light and slamming gears so I pulled the old speed sensor from my old tranny and it seems to be ok now if it comes back any suggestions? Its my only way to work and moneys running thin after having to buy a new motor and tranny and put them in myself. [/IMG] Thats my buddy in it.

Checked it out a bit more and it seems like there's a dead miss on one of the cylinders and I ment Montero Sport XS not xls but still any suggestions are welcome. Thank you

Try swapping a coil pack or all 3 packs off the old motor. if one section of the dual packs is dead or cracked, it wont throw a check engine light, but it'll run like crap. Also, ignition wires... if you're lucky its one of the two (1&5) you can actually get to without removing the entire pelnum (air intake). If it has good spark, you might have a dead injector or a connection problem at the wire harness or ECU, but you would see a check engine light if that was the case...
and the last thing... looked at your picture... cool photo, but I think I would cry if I saw mine like that. At that depth, you might have mud in the catalytic converter, or may have damaged the Engine ECU. at least take the connector off the ECU and see if there's water or mud in it...

Yea Ive changed out the coil packs still the same, the check engine light stays on so I ran the codes on it and it comes back as p1603 which is the ECM. Im pretty sure something shorted so my question now is the ECM from a 3.0 the same as the one in the 3.5?
Yea I didn't mean to sink it like that, someone sat in the middle of that hole and dug it literally 7 ft. deep and I had no clue...

Are the ECM's both the same ? if so a 3.5 motor can just be dropped and plugged in a 3.0 ECM with out changing wiring ?

I would assume there is a difference in fuel and air levels etc.
