I just recently picked up my 2002 MS LS and all I got was a single key and no fob... So I am wondering, is there a way to find out if this had/has keyless entry?
I am a bit confused over what I have read, where some posts make it sound like all the MS models had the ability and you just had to get the fob and program it, some that say all the models have the wiring for all options and just didn't add the device based on the trim level, etc. So really, I want to find out if mine has the capability already for keyless entry, and if not what would be the cheapest/easiest way to add it?
On a related question, I only have the 1 key... So if it's like cars I've had in the past, to get another key I am going to have to go to the dealership for the transponder key and have them program the system for the new key(s), is that correct?
Any help appreciated...

From my understanding anywhere that makes newer keys will be able to set it up for your car. That is what I was told by a place when looking for a second key for my wife's car.

No one knows in regards to the keyless entry? I saw a post saying that all the 2000+ had the ability to have keyless entry, is this correct and how do I verify it prior to actually investing in a remote? I don't have any sort of alarm light or anything that I've seen.

had a remote and followed the same procedure but couldn't make it to work.... Its very tricky at first but you just have to make sure you find pin 1 and 4 which is on the bottom right hand side on 2000 and up models. That DIY page has the older one in the PIC. But the procedure is the same.

Ok, so I assume from this post that means that ALL 2000-up Montero Sports have keyless entry capabilities even if they weren't ordered with that option?

Just seems so odd to install options no matter what was ordered and simply not enable them... Maybe I'm just used to American cars or something?

It is strange but if you think about it in the end it makes a lot of Fiscal sense. I mean you can take an ES Sport and get all the trim stuff for the full order and just plug it in and away you go. One wire loom for each vehicle and then just the parts they need for different trim levels. Now an American car or almost any other brand will have extra looms that have to be clipped in to make things work that it wouldn't have. Yes they make money off of it, but I bet more people would buy a lighted vanity visor if that was all they had to buy rather than the Visors the loom and the work to add all that stuff. So you still have to make the loom anyway so what is the point probably cost the company more in the long run to make the different looms.

Having one wire loom for all trim levels and just adding components as needed makes perfect sense when building the vehicles. I'm just surprised that they would actually install the wireless receiver in all models as well and just include the fob when keyless entry was ordered...

I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a quality simple to use and flexible alarm/remote starter system. The 2 way feedback is great for people with OCD, LOL. Instead of double checking whether you forgot to lock the doors or not, all you need to do is look at the LCD display and it shows you the active status of the car, Locked or Unlocked. And if alarm is triggered it shows you, besides beeping and vibrating exactly what triggered the alarm, door, hood, shock sensor etc... And you can customize so many alarm features the way you like them to act. 2-way remote is the BEST! You get confirmation exactly when the car has successfully started and notified of alarm status, you can even remotely check the car interior temperature if you want. Best of luck!

Does certainly sound like an awesome system... Also sounds like quite a bit more cash when I can just get a fob off of eBay and program my MS to use it... How much did yours run, and what was the difficulty of installation? And wouldn't it require some sort of bypass or an extra programmed key so that it can do the remote start and such?
