Help please I just purchased 2 OEM key fobs for my '97 Montero. I have the little red light on the left side of steering wheel on the dash and the small box on steering column. I tried the shorting out 1 & 4 on the data port method and nothing happened. I Googled and found another procedure where you turn to on and hold down the little red button until alarm beeps then press the keyfob. I got the alarm to beep but it never beeped when pressing the keyfob lock button. Both keyfobs are guaranteed new batteries when purchased.
Any ideas?
Thanks Jim

I have the super secret original dealership install docs somewhere. I'll see if I can find them when I get home tonight. Neither of those sound quite right, though, from what little I remember. I've never done it myself. The dealership does mine for free, so .... Edward

I bought one from ebay and followed the DIY,short pin 1 and 4 , I had a heck of a time to get them to short. I used paper clip to no avail then tried a heavy gauge wire and finally got it to work, it was pain and took me like 6-9 times before I got it. Mine is a 01 so I am not sure on the 97. I was kinda slow at it so that's why it took so many times, you have very few secs to complete the sequence.
