So the Previous owner just wire tapped off the tail lights. I'm just waiting for this to be an issue. Just look at the connector side.... No good comes from installs like this over time. I want to redo this the right way... On my chevy Dually there was a wire junction weather pack under the vehicle. The shop had cleanly wired the trailer lights into that. Is there a junction like that I can tie into on the Sport? 2001... I can make a custom adapter harness if need be from junkyard wiring bits... I just need a junction... I looked on youtube and saw this abomination... really this is a custom install. Good grief... Or have my standards become to high? youtu.be/kkHhwZ2Vqmkyoutu.be/3_XoRMzV0yII did however see this... it says its for a montero... will it work on the sport? www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Mitsubishi/Montero/2002/118380.html?vehicleid=20021174864Their "sport" option seems to be a universal. BLAH! So I was searching on montero sport connectors.... Like this junction right by the grommet. If this exists on the sports I can cut the connector out on both sides and use it to make a custom harness adapter... Or if I can find the correct connector to tie to the taiil light connector like this

There is really nothing wrong with buying a universal junction box. Just make sure to solder in the connections versus just wire tapping.

Mine was also tapped into a tail light wire. Connection went bad and took me hours to track down.

That's what worries me about taps. When I replaced my tails a few weeks back there was so much nasty stuff back behind them

You're better off going to a junkyard and snipping some connectors off if you don't feel like soldering anything.

Guess I will have to junkyard it. Soldering is fine, i can do that, but I always prefer not to dink with the factory wiring if it can be avoided. So I will gut a yard car for spare wires to make my own plug and play harness adapter. Now to get the spouse on board for a yard trip!

I tend to not destroy factory wiring if it is for somethng important. However with taillights, that would be an easy repair if you screwed up.
