if anyone can please help !!i have a 1989 montaro 4 dr and rear door , has a 3.0L auto trans , proublem starts in rear tail lamps , short caused no tail lamps with headlamps on , brake lamps did work , but would feed back through the running lamps , so even with the headlamps off ( day time driving ) the dash lamps would come on with the brake lamps , i got a new coullem switch ( headlamp , turnsignal , wiper ) and a new brake lamp switch and a new turn signal flasher , but still no brake lamps , they still seem to be feeding through the lighring system , what do i look for ?? how can i fix this

Check the brake bulbs themselves. Since they are dual filament bulbs, i've seen cases where one of the taillight filaments would break, but would short across to the brake light filiments causing feedback when the brakes are applied. It's definately a weird phenomenon.

thanks , joel , i have pulled both the frt bulbs and the rear lamp assy and i still have the proublen , any other ideas , ? rick

I had a 90 Montero that developed a short in the wiring above the brake pedal. I think it happened due to movement of the pedal against the wires. Might want to take a look at those wires for worn insulation/exposed wires.
