1999 Montero Sport XLS
Why won't the rear brakes stop when on a lift in drive & brake pedal engaged? I have replaced front rotors & pads plus a new master cyc. The rear brakes looked like new so I didn't replace them, Also the proportioning valve looked like new when inspection was done. The brakes have been bled 3 times.

For montero sport issues, you will get more responses in the general section (main section for montero sports). This section is for full size monteros, and not viewed as often.
As for some possible reasons, there could e air trapped in the ABS system, I know they are supposed to be cycled while bleeding to remove air since it is a secondary section off main line that is only open when ABS is engaged. Just a thought. Also is your rear rotors thick enough in case they were turned or worn down when the pads were replaced last but not thick enough to engage pads? Also, like mine B4 the rear pistons in the caliper were stuck, so was getting pedal feed back like they were engaged, but weren't, and the slider pins that the one side of the caliper moves with also were gooped up and not sliding. my pads were only slightly worn so I ignored it when I replaced my front pads the first time. After taking it all apart, replacing a couple calipers, and cleaning and re-lubing the other ones including pins etc they work a ton better now. I also did a complete brake fluid change to better quality fluid. I am sure that helped also. Just some food for thought you might think about checking. And if pads are bad, (not just from wear and thinning) they might not be grabbing, same is if the rotor is greased. I am not a mechanic so take my possible solutions with a grain of salt.

Thanks Dirk, I took all the rotors to O'Rilleys for a turn job but found out the fronts were already worn to much. They said the rear was ok so I didn't have them turned but put new pads on. I'm wondering if the rear ones might be warped enough that the sensors might be not letting the brakes work normal. I need to do some reading how to bleed the abs system, will power bleeding do it? I'll use the general site on my sport so thanks.
