My 01 montero sport, for the 2nd time now the hazard lights come on by themselves while Im driving and the door lock fuse gets blown.
1ST OCCURANCE AUG 1ST 2016
As the drivers door window was lowered the door locks began rapidly locking and unlocking on their own. On rolling the window back up ,the rapid lock- unlock stuff stopped on its own (blew the 15amp doorlock fuse .
SECOND OCCURANCE (august 18 and 700 miles later) The only difference on the 18th is that the windows hadnt been lowered and the locks hadn't act up . Just flashing emer switch and headlights occured. Again the door lock fuse was blown .
On depressing the hazard lights the flasing quit, only to come back on later.
Anyone ever deal with this before or have any other explanations what might be going on?

Any signs of mice or squirrels etc, possibly a shorted wire/wires, chaffing blowing the fuses etc? Had electrical issues with my probe 1 wire chewed on, and caused it to heat up 2 others near it in fuse bix, had to repair like 5 or 6 wires, and fuses and fuse box.

not that I know of. How should i remove the switch panel to see if a problems is there? It looks like I just pry the panel up to pop off. Is there a right spot to pry at? Then theres following the wiring to the fuse box.

It might show everything OK until you hit a bump and it grounds out a +wire etc. I would start off with continuity tests and ground testing etc, but it usually only will show the problem when the problem is actually acting up. A hand held multi tester would be handy. Mine was easier to find because there was a small nest right there and mouse dropping trail to follow. Easier to pin point the problem if it is always a problem and not intermittent. I don't know a lot about the wiring of these yet besides the basics.

First occurrence would lead me to think it's in the board inside the door that is the problem since it is the window/locks. Second occurrence with it being lights etc makes me think it is outside of that area. But as I said I'm no expert.

Second occurrence with it being lights etc makes me think it is outside of that area. But as I said I'm no expert. ========================================================================================== I looked under the fusebox in the engine compartment and there is no evidence of mice. The wirng all looks good inside and exiting the box and on into the firewall to cab. i looked under the dash and its roomy and visually unobstructed. I see no evidence of mice or wire wear.Of course that guarantees nothing! I need to pop the switch panel on the door armrest area . If that is ok then Ill have to take the MS to a mechanic Have you or anyone else ever removed the switch panel on the door panel?

Yeah when I painted my interior door panels black, I had them all apart. Pretty easy to take apart, just make sure if removing a back door you remove the handle cup prior to taking panel off. I do believe that it is the front side that is a clip near the mirror control, and back side behind window controls, is the catch that holds it in, pop it up and 2 connectors push in the release and slide both right out.

Yea, the clip you can pry up with a panel remover tool, putty knife, possibly a credit card.
I would say it's the master switches on the drivers door. However, with the headlights and hazards acting up as well as the door locks could be the ETACS or keyless entry acting up.
Check the wires on and around the interior fuse box. ETACS has the ability to control all that. It's the red sometimes grey box on the back of the fuse panel. With the truck running gently wiggle the wires around there as well as tap on the fuse panel and ETACS box to see if you can duplicate it.
You may have to remove it to inspect wires on the other side as its a really tight fit. I would remove the battery negative before doing so.

i walked out to the montero sport and decided to pop the hood and see what happens. The hood alarm went off and within 2 min it resets & shuts off. I replaced the hood alarm button, since I had an extra, but that didnt solve the alarming from opening the hood .I tried it a 3rd time and it didnt alarm! Fixed? I doubt it!
I dont get it. Tomorrow, ill try and pry the armrest switch panel out and see what i can see.
As long as things are functioning properly theres not much they can do,so I guess Ill have to wait until it happens again, not touch it and take it in hoping they can catch it.
