I recently purchased a 2002 Montero Sport. I am running 265/75/16 Cooper Discoverer AT/3's. I bought 2" hubcentric wheel spacers. Here is my dilemma... Do I need to buy & install longer studs? I am getting 7 threads of bite. Almost 8, but that's to the end of the stud including the end taper. How many true threads/turns am I getting? How many do I need? It is just a daily driver. No off-roading. Just city & highway. I just like the look, plus the stability of the extra width. I have read a few articles. Some say a minimum of 8 threads/turns. Others say 6.5 is sufficient. I just want to make sure that it is safe for my family. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your input.

I am not a big believer in spacers. Which is why I spent hours yesterday searching wheels. Our 108 center bore is just the biggest pain in the a%s.

You will not find much spacer love here... but i have always been warned away from spacers that are strictly a disc with holes that go between the rim and hub. I have temporarily used them, but they have NEVER been over .5 inches... so lack of threads were a non issue Generic google image: The better versions have always been the versions that bolt to existing studs like a rim. Then give you new studs to bolt your rim too. Generic google image: I have used this version on a daily driver firebird for many years and have not had an issue.... however.... a lowered firebird sees different suspension stresses then a heavy suv. The spacer will add additional stresses on the suspension. Just a warning... now if you do go with spacers... go with last version NOT the first. You will need high quality versions, not cheap chinese knock offs. The quality of the billit matters. Some say go with a steel version of this... Just food for thought.

Most aftermarket wheels are not shoulder lug nuts like our stock ones. That has me looking at options in the 110 bore size 6x 139.7 area, but not for crawling. b

I already bought 6x139.7 2" spacers with a 108mm bore & 12x1.5mm studs.

So do they look like the black ones I posted? Usually those are designed to have similar mounting thickness to standard rims? What type of lugs are you using to bolt the spacers to the hub and the rim to the spacer?

They are similar. They don't have the protruding lip in the center. They are flush. They are designed to use the provided lug nuts on the existing studs to mount the spacers. Then use the original lug nuts to mount the factory rims to the studs provided on the spacers.

so your thread question is regarding the factory studs or the spacer's studs?

I have great bite on the spacers studs with the factory lugs. I only have about 7 threads/turns on the factory studs with the spacer lugs. Just want a little piece of mind while driving down the highway with my family. Some places say 6.5 is fine. Others state 8 for 12x1.5mm studs...

I have these rims and tires. Love them to death. Ditch the spacers. They'll get you killed.

Nice. Got the Montero for $2000. Not looking into making a crawler. Just an agressive looking, but safe daily driver. I have had 2" spacers on my 2007 F150 for over 2 years now. Running 315/70/17's on that with the factory leveling kit.

I bought and installed spacers like the black ones you posted to fit in some 20 inch chrome wheels before.....didn't like the feeling and really uncomfortable....just used it for a week and took them off then sold them as well as the wheel set.....noticed also excessive bearing wear/loosening after such a short use.
