As I wrote on my last post, I am planning on taking a trip to Lake Tahoe next week. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience driving up there and if not, should I put snow chains? I own a 2002 XLS 4x4 and just 3 days ago purchased new tires (All season/ Goodyear Wrangler). Should I be fine without the chains? info appreciated!

Never been there, but did find these helpful tips from their site: tahoe.com/articles/lake-tahoe-winter-driving-tips-chain-requirementsPlease let us know how it went and some pics if possible. I’d like to try a similar trip in the future.

I've driven my 2001 sport in snow with 4WD without trouble, but used chains when my wife got scared.

I've driven 100+ miles in extreme freezing rain, and keeping visibility was harder then staying on the road, but I run really good snow tires during winter months, and have driven through snow over my hood on trails and just getting out of my driveway some mornings, never even had to use 4L in the snow (yet). Also take into consideration I run 33s with 2 inch suspension, and 2 inch body lifts. So snow over the hood is like snow mid windshield. Good winter snow/ice tires make a huge difference.

How much you reckon you spent on both your 2inch lifts?

Body lift was cheap, ordered the Toyota body pucks individually, grade 8 bolts nuts and washers separately also. It was a little time consuming. Suspension lift I just ordered an OME lift from offroad outfitters.
