Hello Everyone, I have the 4H light blinking issue and want to see if the freewheel valve solenoid is the culprit. I've been reading through these forums and I know this is a common issue. With that being said, many of the photos of the location of the part have expired URLs so I just cant get my head around where its located. From reading other threads it seems like the part should be in one of two places: 1. In the engine bay\on the passenger side (partially underneath the air box). I removed my air filter but I didn't see it there... am I blind? 2. Underneath the truck, remove the skid plate, on the back/bottom of the front differential. I looked here too but didn't see it there either. Are either of these locations correct? Perhaps the location is different between different years? I've found a few photos online (below) but I cant figure out the location of them because the images are cropped too close to the part. I believe this is the part I'm searching for: "MR263723" www.amazon.com/Genuine-Mitsubishi-MR263723-Freewheel-Solenoid/dp/B074CPHC6R/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=MR263723&qid=1578255862&s=automotive&sr=1-2My truck is a 2002 Montero Sport XLS. Thank you for your help!

2002 and up doesn’t use the solenoid. It’s more than likely the switches on the transfer case.

Just to mention, I have a 2007 MS in Sri lanka and it has the solenoids as pictured. Did you find the cause for your flashing lights? I had the same flashing 4x4 light issue some years ago and replaced one of the original solenoids with a somewhat similar part sourced locally and the problem was sorted. 4x4 is working fine.

Yea I should’ve rephrased that. Most on this site are in the U.S. so the model year for us ended in 04. It’s really based on if it’s part time 4WD or not. If it has the option for 2wd it will have the solenoid. If it’s full time AWD with selectable 4Hi 4Lo it won’t have it as its purpose is to disengage/engage the front axle. I know the newer ones ended up with the super select from the full size montero so those to would have the solenoid as they do 2WD, AWD, 4Hi, and 4Lo.
The OP however mentioned a flashing 4Hi light. The 02-04 have the 4Hi/4Lo light instead of the green 4wd drivetrain light. I can’t say for sure with the 05 and up but my guess it would be similar to the super select display on the Montero’s.

Ah I see what you mean. Even though ours is 2007, it still has the old system you mention and not the super select. It has 2H, 4H and 4L. The dash light is only the green 4x4 drivetrain light.

Hmm, then I suppose it was with the redesign in 09 they received the super select.
