I am a career Firefighter/Paramedic in the Washington DC area. I worked at the Pentagon on 9/12 (having been at a firehouse on 9/11) and saw things that I hoped in my career I would never see again. But now, once again my Captain at work has spread the word that we are on "High Alert" (again) and that the possibility of an attack is good. So as I sit hear having just had a conversation with my 15-yr-old about who to call in case Mom gets stuck at work - or worse - not come home from work at all, I wonder what the general feeling is across the nation. I realize that I - and all my brothers and sisters in the fire service - look at things differently. We are trained for this, we expect this - and we understand that the cost of us doing our jobs could mean that we not go home. And I can't imagine doing anything else. I love what I do. But what is the feeling of my fellow MS'ers? Are you prepared? Have you talked to your families? Your kids? I realize that this may be a little too much of a "heavy" topic for this forum - and I apologize if this is not the place for this. Thanks for letting me vent. Mel

I feel for U PMed. Would just like to say that we out here in Utah appreciate what U and your colleages do for the people that are at some time in need of help. I will guess that the majority of Utahns are fairly oblivious to anything going on outside are own borders, not to say that we don't care rather that we want to live our lives to the fullest and enjoy the freedoms given to us by this country. If the time comes for us to act, then act we will but we will not be swayed by any heinous act (did I spell that right?) or at least that is the way I feel. And no I'm not a mormon or a republican if anyone is wondering. Most families are prepared in this state. Ute

pmed,
I share the same emotion. I too wear the uniform. I serve in the U.S. Navy and has been hectic here. It's asurring to know that my loved ones are protected by people like yourself who will risk his life to save another. My salute to all of you F/F and Police. As my old ship's motto goes, "NEVER GIVE IN".
