For those of you who remembered, i picked up a pretty cherry 92 Mitsu 3000GT VR4 a couple of months back after i sold my Montero Sport. I just wanted to share what i've done to it so far. First, I had a custom 3" down pipe all the way back (no catayltic converters), split to a set 2.5" into a set of Magnaflow mufflers with oval tips. The sound is absolutely awesome and it looks great.
The stock windshield defrost garnishes are known for cracking over the years and mine was no exception. The bad part about it is that they are secured to the dash from underneath! . This meant i had to remove my entire dashboard just to fix it. All in a days work i guess.
To freshen the cars looks and to update it's appearance, i also added a set of 18x8.5 Axis Hiro wheels with Toyo tires, and painted the calipers with Duplicolors Caliper Painting kit- notice how i accented the "Mitsubishi" raised lettering .
Lastly, i added a manual boost controller. The stock turbo's would be lucky to boost between 5-7 PSI for those years. The 320HP VR4's (94 and newer) had the increase between 8-10PSI. Carefully monitoring knock counts and O2 sensor readings (to be sure i didn't go too lean at high RPM/High Boost readings), i carefully raised my boost to a cool 15PSI all the way to redline. (also mounted a Autometer boost gauge to the A pillar). The extra boost, K&N conical filter, and 3" catalyst free exhaust really makes the car scoot! Thow in a set short throw shifter, cross drilled and slotted rotors with EBC Redstuff pads- and that's basically it. My next upgrade would be to lower it an inch or so to eliminate that gap between the wheel and fender. I'd say it's not bad for a 14 year old car eh?
