What kind of halogen bulbs do you guys use that give the brightest light? I currently have silverstars and aren't as bright as I would like. I want to keep the wiring stock and not have to worry about the bulbs burning out or overheating my wires. I was thinking of the ones from HiLite Industries. Any suggestions?

i am constantly having people flash their brights at me thinking i have my high beams on with my Silverstars. they are much brighter than stock lights. but if you want brighter i would even suggest switching to HID lights.

Maybe my headlights are aimed too high. Because the light pattern seems diffused with the road in front of me, maybe it's casting it too far.

If you want to save a bundle and keep the performance- go with bulbs that burn as close to 5250k- or the color temperature of the sun. They will produce the most light possible for the road ahead. The silverstars run at a 6000K+ I pretty positive anyways, and are verging on the blueish side and do not produce as much light. I have 5500k bulbs in mine and they perform just as well as HID lights as I often am sitting next to a vehicle with HID at stoplights. HID conversion kits are available, but a pain in the neck to install- no matter how easy they tell you it is. Modifications to vehicles such as those kits always depreciate your vehicle faster- I appraise vehicles for a living.

i got hid's and there isnt any hedlight that is near to the light mine produce, keep in mind that there are different temps of hid'd as well. mine are the 9700k and they are bright as hell. i can pass a vehical and see my lights light up signs 3 time father than a stock set. i have run many brands of reg hyperwhite bulbs and they are briter but not as good. If it dont have japanise writing on it they are crap and dont buy any bulb from apc! as for instalation yeah its hard! instead of cutting off the headlight pigtail, i took the 2 wires that come out of the ignitor for the hid and plugged it into the stock plug and electrical taped it up. that way if a bulb burns out i can still plug in a normal bulb till i get a new one. took al of tem min 20 to bolt in the ignitors. took a drill a screwdriver and some electrical tape. wanna see mine check out the headlight thread in the street moding yeah u can decrease the value of a vehical but u can also increase it with a clean install. well u wont see the increase cuz when u trade it in the say u messed it up but mark up the price when they sell it cuz it has another feature the others dont. well thats my oppinoin, lol! lords there is a way to adj ur headlights. the holes in the core support near ur lights are there to insert a philips screw driver to turn the wheels that adj them . if u look around u will see things that kinda look like bottle caps. that is how u adj them. Clay

i had silverstars for about 2 months. they were just a tad whiter than stock headlights from new cars. wasn't impressed with them at all, so i got a cheap $200 hid kit. much better, but i miss my high-beams dearly.
i have a 98 montero sport, and you can adjust how high, or how much left/right you want by sticking a phillips screwdriver into some holes. not sure what year you have though.
originally, but hid's were pointed a little too high (didn't change any angle when i put the hid's in) and people were hi-beaming me all the time. adjusted them lower, but now it's harder to see the road. i need to bring them up a notch sometime when i remember.

I just read the DIY section about changing the headlight bulbs. The photo shows a different type of bulb, more like an H4 (three exposed copper legs). I have looked at my 03 Montero Sport's driver's manual and it says that my Tero takes 9007. Osram's online application guide shows 9007 as well. I have not had the chance to look under the hood of my Tero as I just picked it up last weekend and I've been busy shopping for wheels for it. So can anyone tell me which bulb type the 03 Montero Sports really use? Thanks. BTW, upgrading the headlight harness is not hard at all! I did it to my other car and it uses a 9004 which is very poor for road illumination. A headlight harness upgrade really helps especially if you double ground each bulb. This also allows you to safely run over-wattage bulbs which can really give your headlights more illuminating power. I ran a StageII Nokya Arctic-White bulb (100W/120W) and it lasted almost 2 years, no melted socket or wires. I am planning to do the same for the Tero using 12 guage wires. It should really help out and should prove as a second option right below HIDs.
