I'm looking to hook up a self powered bass tube in my '00 Monte. I checked these threads for some usefull information, but all I got was some self doubt about installing this myself. I would assume that the HU would say Infinity on it somewhere if I did. Please help me clear this up as I don't want to mess with any excisting amps. Thanks,

You have the Infinity system if you have tweeters in your upper doors, midrange in your dash and midbass in your lower doors. The rear is still just a pair of speakers in the doors.

i got the bass tube in my monty...i just wired it thru the grommet located under the dash driver side to the left of the steering column....i also snaked the poweron/off wire and RCA under the center console, then under the carpets then tucked behind the back seats, it sounds clean so far...not too booming on the outside which is good if you want to contain your sound and not blare it for all to hear.... yeah as for the infinity thing.... shouldnt it say on the stock head unit somwhere??

I can only speak for the 00 MS but nowhere on my head unit did it specify or allude to being an Infinity system. I knew it was Infinity due to the sticker, the amount of speakers and after I pulled the head unit there were NO speaker wires there.
When you pull the headunit you will have the OEM harness which will have power (constant and switched), ground (its been so long I cant remeber if there is actually a ground wire in the harness or if its a stand alone wire), pwr ant and amp turn on. There will also be a din connector on the back that is a round plug and black cord.
Some earlier or later models may have had the words Infinity somewhere on the head unit however, mine did not.

Thanks for the input all. I do have tweeters in the upper doors up front so I guess I do have the infinity system.
I pulled my deck and found a round plug on the left hand side that must go to a cd changer because the other end is not connected to anything. The wire harness is plugged in the middle and the lower right hand side has two plugs. The left one is empty and the right one has a black wire running into it.
I guess the problems have arrised from adding the watts from a new HU to the watts of the stock amp and causing damage to the system. I should be ok since i'm adding a seperate amp that will only be powering the extra tube I am installing correct? I will not be installing a new HU.
Can someone tell me if there is an "auto antennae" or "accesory" wire going into the stock HU. Do I need to tap into this wire from the wire harness? Also i'm assuming there are no RCA outputs (since I didnt' see any) so does anyone know the color of the rear left and right speaker wires so I can tap into those for the high level inputs (the direction for the tube say that the manufacturer actually recommeds the hi's instead of the low's.
I appologize for the novel but I really would like help so that I can do this myself. thanks

What's the easiest way to pull the headunit? Do you need to take off the faceplate or what?
thanks, Eric

just pry the bezel with a flat head screw driver...... starting from the bottom corner and working to the opposite top corner then back to the bottom then to the opposite top... almost like changing a tire..with the lugs n crap.... then just unscrew the 4 mounting screws on the bracket...and bam... u may have to turn the key and put the car in gear to get more clearance to pull the whole unit oout

FYI I have tweeters but don't have and infinity system. The way you know if you have an infinity is checking the speakers under the actual dash, this would make the difference. Stock radio only has speakers on the 4 doors and the two tweeters, infinity adds two speakers under the dash.
