My 1998 MS LS came with this cd changer, however it was not wired. As I was checking the wires and doing some research, I found that the antenna switch box cable is actually missing the box itself . At this point and since it has no literature I am wondering what is the exact function of the antenna swtich box, and if it has anything to do with the FM modulator? Can I substitute it with something else? Your input is appreciated.

the fm modulator creates a new radio station for the audio to be broadcast to. Usually on the pioneer systems they were brand name specific becuase the audio din cable is made specifically for there own brand.

You not need the Antenna Switch Box. As jphillips said, the FM Modulator of the CD changer transmits the audio through an FM station so you just have to tune your radio into that station and you will hear the CDs. People use these FM CD Changers when their HU do not have inputs for the CD chenger or when it have a propietary connector and they dont want to use a CD changer of the same brand. The down side of this is the sound quality. You are downgading your CD sound quality to Radio sound quality. Also, the HU will be playing the audio that is being broadcasted by the CD Changer and any other music or noice that it receives thrugh the antenna of your car. This is were the antenna switch box is used, to avoid this noice and interference. The anntena switch box is plugged between the car antenna and your HU and it will cut the car antenna when the CD changer is being used, that way you dont receive any interference. If you have too much interference you can buy the switch box from pionner for $46.70: parts.pioneerelectronics.com/model.asp?modelNum=CDXFM633S
